Queen of Zealand to ride in the Group 2 Mumm Wakeful Stakes

Queen of Zealand is set to run in the Group 2 Mumm Wakeful Stakes over 2000m at Flemington this Saturday.

Regardless of the result, history will be made as Michelle becomes the first person in Victoria to ride and train a runner at Group level. At stake is a run in Thursday’s $1 million Crown Oaks. Owner Brendon Tohill said, “the plan will be to ride her back….if we can get home and run a nice third or fourth – not saying we can’t win – but that’ll top her off for Thursday.”

Michelle said this week, “she obviously hasn’t had the ideal prep we’d have hoped for, but after galloping her yesterday and looking at her appearance…she’s had the good solid grounding work she needs for the next two races in mind.”

Purchased for $340,000 from the NZ stable of Wayne Jones, Queen of Zealand ran a promising 2nd at Warrnambool 10 days ago in its first start on Australian soil.
